Computer Training “Reassuringly Costly?

It was the humourist Linda Smith who said, “I love Waitrose – it’s that little bit more expensive.

It seems that until the recent credit crunch, all of us allegedly bought into the view that “It must be good if it costs that much, or Low prices for cheap goods. Advertisers perpetuated the myth – think of the luscious Marks & Spencer adverts, with “This is not ordinary food, this is…. At the other extreme, the food shops low cost ranges were bought by ultra thrifty shoppers but barely noticed by you and me.

In Computer training, high price colleges (surely they’re superior – if you have the money – why else would these companies be market leaders?) convinced us that colleges exist who’ll train cheaper but be warned, it won’t be as good.

Then lo and behold, the economy is in tatters, and all of a sudden value becomes our mantra! Discerning shoppers abandon Waitrose, and instead choose Aldi and Lidl. City bankers and their fat cat payouts are out of favour, and we all re-evaluate who we’re buying from.

Have we been fooled by “reassuringly expensiveâ€? price tags? Look a little closer into the country’s IT training market, and maybe the big boys with their fancy prices are not all they seem. Just because we need an ever increasing number of skilled IT professionals, is it essential to fork out over five thousand pounds to be trained in these skills, or are these prices outdated? It’s a bit much that many IT trainers are preaching one thing whilst practicing another – supplying a workforce for the digital age using pen and paper methods. Should we really have to wade through books when any IT material can be downloaded in this communication age? Do we really have to drive to training centres, forking out for our accommodation to support their overheads? Anytime Interactive training should be available for me anywhere – at my convenience, but not at my cost.

With more up-to-date, slicker training options around now at less than half these prices, shouldn’t we acknowledge the fact that when it comes to electronic learning, value is great quality and great price. We’re moving on in Computer training – in marketing terminology, it’s slashed prices for best ever products. In this uncertain world we live in, bring it on.
