With more than 100-million online viewings everyday…. there’s no doubt that sites like “You Tube” are ‘the’ entertainment of the moment.
But while to some it’s just fun to post homemade movies, others are cashing in.
Joanna Respold earned lots of attention – and a little cash – when her friends shot and uploaded a video of her…eating a live praying mantis.
“We actually just happened to be in the room and turned the camera on, hit
Record, and they filmed it while I ate the bug.”
Joanna’s clip was sent to Break.com , one of a handful of sites where you can potentially profit from your postings.
“Talented people who create compelling content should be paid.”

CEO Keith Richman says Break.com pays $400 per original clip, two thousand if it’s a highly produced original piece. But here’s the catch. You only cash in if the video is popular enough to make it to the site’s homepage.
“When the audience likes it and when they say, ‘feature this video, promote this video,’ we migrate you over to our feature section and, when you do that, you get paid for it.”
Revver.com
Revver.com is another viral video network that pays. But PC World’s Ed Albro says here it works a little differently.
“Revver runs ads in the video and then splits the proceeds of those ads with the person who uploaded the video.”
The more people who view your video, the more money you make. Albro says while posting is fun, you probably shouldn’t quit your day job.
“You shouldn’t expect to get rich uploading video to one of these websites.
It’s really kind of a crap shoot.”
Revver tells us payouts vary from a few bucks for a home movie shared among friends to tens of thousands of dollars for a video that spreads like wildfire.Break says it’s already paid out hundreds of thousands of dollars to users.
It’s important to note that the sites pay only for original content and vary in how they pay and what they want.
Some only pay for mini-documentaries, or actual tv-programs called “webisodes.”
