Some obstacles for Malaysian marketers…

By Online Mom | Jul 6, 2006

If you have been around the internet marketing arena, you will realise that being Malaysians, we are at a unfair disadvantage.

First disadvantage, Paypal.

Paypal is one of the most widely accepted payment processor. And it is almost a must to use Paypal if you are an eBay seller. However, Paypal does not allow Malaysians to withdraw funds out of their account although Malaysians can open an account. The only way round this is to open a US bank account for withdrawing funds. I have done a bit of reading up and it is not difficult for Malaysians to open a US bank account. Do a search on Google, and you will find much information on opening US bank accounts for non-US citizens.

Another huge obstacle Malaysians marketers have to battle is Clickbank. Clickbank offers the biggest selection of affiliate products and majority of the internet marketers use Clickbank to sell their products. It is a huge blow for Malaysian affiliates to be barred from opening a Clickbank account. Clickbank has started to ban Malaysians a few years back due to high fraud cases. Thanks to some unscrupulous people, now the whole country is banned! Arrgghh! :-(

Well, I have done some research on this and there ARE some ways to get around this obstacle. First, if you have someone you trust staying in countries accepted by Clickbank, then the easiest solution is to use their address and telephone number to register for an account. However, if you do not have anyone residing in these countries, then the best option is to open a virtual office in those countries which are accepted by Clickbank. For us Malaysians, the nearest would be Singapore. Do a search on Singapore virtual office, you will find that there are many virtual office packages offerred to suit different needs.

If you want more details on this area, there is a very good book specially written by a Malaysians for Malaysians internet marketers.

If these options are not possible, then you can consider Paydotcom

Paydotcom’s range of products is not as established as Clickbank’s, but it is an alternative you can consider.

If you want to accept payment at your website but do not want to use Paypal, then 2CO may be an option:

The feedback I got from other marketers who uses 2CO is very positive. No issues. In fact, many marketers are lookng for Paypal alternatives as Paypal is notorious for freezing merchants’ accounts. Read here: http://www.JustSayNoToPayPal.com
